Whenever possible, Habitat builds and improves homes using the latest technologies. From Energy Star-rated appliances to solar panels, innovations allow homeowners to save money on energy costs. Since 1990, we have built, rehabilitated, or repaired over 1,000 houses in neighborhoods all across greater Los Angeles. Shelter is a basic human need, and Habitat for Humanity strives to achieve its goal of eliminating substandard housing by making decent, sustainable, and affordable housing a reality for all. We empower communities to build equitable and inclusive neighborhoods through housing opportunities and community development. In early 2023, the area was hit with major flooding from historic rains that pummeled California, causing extensive damage to SCICON, including its fragile salamander habitat.

With their bushy blooms, tiered branches, and voluminous leaves, pagoda dogwoods provide plenty of safe spots for birds to perch and nest. While the branches and leaves might attract them at first, they'll stay for the fruit that develops in the warmer months. Birds and small mammals, like chipmunks and rabbits, are fans of the nectar and the dark blue berries that appear after the flowers blossom in spring and summer. Bees and butterflies will be found hovering around this dogwood, and the flowers it produces will be equally enjoyed by humans. We promote mutual respect, collaboration, authenticity, and a foundation of understanding among our staff, volunteers, and donors.
